The process:

  • Artwork for scratch off latex printing should be supplied in the same way as any other print job, however you’ll need to specify which areas you’d like to be concealed and which areas should be left visible. You’ll also need to specify which colour you’d like for the scratch off latex.
  • It’s important to consider the size of the scratch off area and the weight of the stock you’re printing on as these will both impact the ease with which the latex can be removed. Too large of an area or too heavy a stock may make the latex harder to remove.
  • If you have any specific requirements, please let us know and we’ll be happy to assist with the design process.

Potential pit falls

Poor adhesion of the scratch off ink or lamination and print set off.

Solutions:

Choose a suitable stock for your project – glossy or silk papers work best for scratch off latex inks as they provide a smooth surface that can be easily scratched off. It’s also important to keep in mind that the scratch off area will become slightly thinner after scratching and so it’s best to make the printed area slightly larger to allow for this.

Remember to supply your artwork as a separate file for the scratch off area, similar to spot UV, to ensure a clear and clean application of the latex ink.

Lastly, make sure to test the scratch off effect before going to print to ensure the desired effect has been achieved. A sample can be made for you upon request.

The prize can be seen through the reverse

Solution:

Make sure that the paper weight is adequate to prevent show-through. If possible, it’s best to avoid placing bright-colored images under the latex unless a heavy weight paper is used. To resolve the issue, consider decreasing the tint value in that area.

Solution:

It’s recommended to use 100% black to avoid any show through on the paper. In case coloured text or images are necessary, the scratch off latex should be changed to white to ensure a clear result.

Scratch off areas are too close to each other

Solution:

It’s important to keep in mind that the scratch off latex will overlap the designated area by approximately 2mm, so the actual exposed area will be slightly smaller. The shape and size of the scratch off area can be tailored to your specific needs and preferences.
