Gloss coated paper

Gloss coated paper, as its name implies, is a shiny, glossy paper. The gloss coating, which is applied on both sides of the sheet, provides the paper with a smooth and photographic quality. The gloss coating maximizes the vibrancy and color contrasts, as it prevents ink from being absorbed into the paper. The glossiness of the paper can be further enhanced with the application of a gloss machine seal or a gloss lamination, making it the perfect choice for strut cards and other marketing materials such as magazines, flyers, and catalogs that need images to stand out.

The gloss coating also offers excellent protection against cracking, so folded brochures and leaflets can often be folded without scoring. However, it is important to keep in mind that the gloss coating has a reflective quality, which can cause glare and make it difficult to read documents with large sections of text.

Silk Coated Paper

Silk coated paper, also referred to as satin paper, offers the same advantages as gloss paper with the added benefit of reduced glare. The silk coating on both sides of the sheet gives it a subtle sheen, enhancing the vibrancy of colors and making text easy to read. As a result, silk paper is a popular choice for various print materials such as brochures, leaflets, posters, folders, and packaging items like box sleeves and pillow packs. The silk coating also offers protection against cracking, making it suitable for folded documents without the need for scoring. This makes silk paper an ideal choice for a variety of printing applications, including strut cards.

Matte Coated Paper

Matte coated paper is a great choice for a wide range of printed materials like business cards, brochures, stationery, and even packaging. Its dull finish and anti-glare properties make it easy to read large areas of text, while its ability to hold ink well means that colours will still look good, although not as vivid as on gloss or silk coated paper. Additionally, the matte coating enhances the contrast of contrasting finishes like gloss spot UV varnish or foiling, making them stand out even more.

Uncoated Paper

Uncoated paper is a highly sought after option due to its focus on sustainability. This type of paper is often made from 100% recycled material and is fully recyclable after use, making it a popular choice for eco-conscious individuals and organizations.

Uncoated paper features a natural and rustic appearance, as it lacks any protective coating. Its absorbent properties make it well-suited for lithographic printing, where a faded or washed-out look is desired. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the lack of coating on uncoated paper makes it more prone to tearing and cracking, making it a less ideal choice for folded items.
